Today’s Take Up Your Sword reading has us in 2 Thessalonians and this reminder of how God has saved us, is saving us, and will save us is a great passage to meditate on and pray through in preparation for our gathered worship this Sunday. Take a few minutes to read it slowly and prayerfully, taking note of the past, present, and future aspects of God’s redeeming work in our lives.
“We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.” (2 Thess. 2:13–17)
This Sunday Fred Sanders will be preaching Luke 20:27-44 and Kenny Clark will be leading our sung worship. Would you pray for each as they prepare?
And for heart preparation, let’s thank God for choosing and calling us (past) from death to life through the gospel. Ask Him to continue his sanctifying work in us through the gospel, establishing us in every good work and word (present). And ask him to strengthen our faith in the eternal comfort and good hope that is ours through grace, that we might press on toward the day we will obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ (future).
See you Sunday, Grace. Come hungry!
SONG OF THE WEEK
Jesus, Fount of Joy Eternal by the Trails Church
Jesus, fount of joy eternal
Spring of endless love divine
Deepest well once poured out for us
Filling empty hearts with life
Come rejoice, be glad forever
Come rejoice again in Christ
Jesus, fount of joy eternal
Precious Savior, our delight
