After explaining how to deal with false teachers within the church, he urges Titus:
“But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.” (Titus 2:1)
Not only are elders to be able to give instruction in sound doctrine, but also in what accords with sound doctrine. What should it look like when sound doctrine is believed, embraced, and lived out? How should this look among the members of the household of God? One of the metaphors Paul uses for the local church is a household.
“You are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19)
And to Timothy, Paul writes:
“I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.” (1 Timothy 3:14-15)
Here in Titus 2:1-10, this is exactly what we will find. How should the gospel shape the family dynamics of the household of God? God has made us a family, Grace, and He hasn’t left us without guidance as to what sort of family we ought to be!
We will spend the next three Sundays in this section of Titus. This week, Jackson Randall will be preaching from Titus 2:1-3 and Kenny Clark will be leading our sung worship. Would you read the passage we will be studying and pray for each as they prepare and for all who will be at Grace for each of these services?
See you Sunday. Come hungry!
