When we think of Passion week, we usually think of the three key events of the final days of Jesus on earth – his triumphal entry, crucifixion, and resurrection, but there was so much more that happened between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.
The Gospel Coalition has put a wonderful resource online called The Final Days of Jesus with a short daily video recounting the events that happened on each day leading up to Jesus’ death on the cross. In preparation for our Passion Week services, you might take a few minutes each day to watch the corresponding video.
We will be gathering for the following services this week:
Maundy Thursday (6-7pm) – A reading and song service from John 13-17 where we will remember the last Passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples and the new commandment He gave them (and to us!) that they love one another as Jesus had loved them.
Good Friday (6-7pm) – Jackson Randall will preach from John 19:16-30 on the death of Jesus, and the hour of glorification for which He came to earth.
Resurrection Sunday – Erik Thoennes will preach on Jesus’ glorious resurrection from John 20:1-10.
There’s still time this week to invite someone to join you for one (or all!) of these services. Many who would normally never attend a church worship service will do so on Good Friday and Easter if invited. Who might you ask to come with you this week?
Let’s pray for each of these services as the gospel is proclaimed that the Spirit would draw people to receive Christ!
Song Link of the Week
Jerusalem by City Alight
See Him in Jerusalem
Walking where the crowds are
Once these streets had sung to Him
Now they cry for murder
Such a frail and lonely Man
Holding up the heavy cross
See Him walking in Jerusalem
On the road to save us
See Him there upon the hill
Hear the scorn and laughter
Silent as a lamb He waits
Praying to the Father
See the King who made the sun
And the moon and shining stars
Let the soldiers hold and nail Him down
So that He could save them
See Him there upon the cross
Now no longer breathing
Dust that formed the watching crowds
Takes the blood of Jesus
Feel the earth is shaking now
See the veil is split in two
And He stood before the wrath of God
Shielding sinners with His blood
See the empty tomb today
Death could not contain Him
Once the Servant of the world
Now in vict’ry reigning
Lift your voices to the One
Who is seated on the throne
See Him in the New Jerusalem
Praise the One who saved us
